The Start of Something New:

Does that title make me sound too millennial?

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Life as Marcella. I’m starting my social media today. Perhaps saying it here will make it feel more real, which, in itself, is scary to do. But I hope it will also add some accountability. I know that the first few months will be trial and error, and I’m trying not to get discouraged before I’ve even begun—something that my anxiety brain loves to do. Regardless, I’m excited to begin this journey of no longer wishing for things to happen to me, but actually taking the reins. Balancing everything I need to do will take a lot of practice and improved time management skills, but I’m willing to learn.

As an update on my first draft: I’m slowly but surely making progress on the first round of edits. I will admit, it has been difficult to pull myself out of the story and not make changes right away. I’m jotting down notes and taking the beta readers’ comments in stumbling stride. I’ve tried not to read too many of the comments thus far, mostly because one of the readers is my brother, and his commentary hits home the most. But I also want to read the comments in their entirety when I will actually be applying the changes. I will say, though, the Gmail pings are rather tempting.

I’ve also begun a new WIP. This one is a different genre than my first draft, and I’m trying a different tactic. Using this WIP as a creative outlet has been helpful, since it takes my mind off the other story and adds some neutrality to editing. I’ll delve into this different tactic for writing in another post, but I wanted to share the update with everyone!

Thank you for your support, and happy writing!

xx Marcella
