IS AI Making Us All Homogenous?

How AI Affected My First Social Media Post

I use Claude regularly. At this point, who doesn’t use AI either to help problem solve or as a feedback partner when no one else is available? I try not to use it every day because, you know, water issues, but I do think it is a great resource. Do I think it’s the end-all-be-all? No. Do I think it has its shortcomings? Absolutely. But do I also think it’s a great tool especially when trying to break into a new field? Yes.

If you’ve read Lovely Little Chapters, then you know I had a brief stint with social media before, but I wasn’t using it like I am now. I’m also using different platforms, and my knowledge of algorithms or “pillars” for a brand was lacking. So I turned to Claude. I gave it my idea, and asked for help on how to spin it for social media. Now, I’ve asked Claude to be brutally honest, and give me real stats, and it immediately came back with the answer: No, don’t do that. Immediately, I was met with discouragement. The imposter syndrome was sneaking in, whispering all the dreadful things I thought about myself and my future career as a published author. So I scrapped my original idea, and moved on to a new one: “How I treat writing like a job, and not a hobby I’ll get to someday.”

I hadn’t seen anything like that on social media, and I thought it was a great angle. I worked with Claude some more on this new idea, and drafted a post to go up last week. Only problem? Before I could even make the post live, I saw not one, not two, but three separate accounts post essentially the same thing.

Am I that unoriginal, or was AI leading myself and others down the same path? How do I know it was AI that wrote the description for the other posts? Because it was almost word-for-word the example descriptions it gave me.

But I already drafted the first post, so what do I do? Well, I still posted it, but it flopped. And it made me think: Is AI making us homogenous? It’s trained, it tells us similar things, and takes from the internet. So, was I unintentionally training AI for content use, or did I subconsciously pick-up on a trend before it was really a trend? Because let me clarify, I wasn’t working with Claude just one day last week. This has been weeks in progress. I have been building my “brand” using the help of Claude for really months now, and I feel a bit cheated. Not to say that I imagined my first post ever would go viral, and I thought I was a genius, but I did think I had a bit more originality.

After a long bout of imposter syndrome, and by that, I mean a pep-talk from my husband for about twenty minutes, I went back to my original idea WITHOUT Claude, and decided to look up social media information the good old-fashioned way: Google. Now, I’m venturing into the deep-dark world of social media, so we’ll see where it leads me.

_Don’t let hesitation steal your opportunity! Sometimes we become so caught up in our goals and so focused on the end result that we miss the miracles all along the way. Take time to enjoy your life’s journey. Enjoy the different personalities and things God has put in your life._

_Don’t let yourself become so focused and driven, so busy with what you have to do each day, that you miss the “goodies” along the way. Start enjoying the different things God has put in your life. Appreciate and enjoy the great things He has placed in your life._
