I took a much needed break for two weeks to visit with family and do some brainstorming for my book. In my analog edits, I’m about two-thirds of the way complete, and my goal is to begin digital edits by November 1st. I would love to be done with draft two before baby girl makes her appearance, and I’m incapacitated for three or so months, but we’ll see what happens. I’m still waiting on notes from one more reader, and of course that reader is my husband. *cue eye roll* No, I’m just kidding, I know he’s taking diligent and in-depth notes which is delaying him finishing the book.
Having the readers for draft one was more beneficial than I thought. Initially, I was going to do all of draft one edits by myself, and then have them read draft two. But as I was editing draft one, I realized I was in too deep. I cared too much about these characters, and I needed fresh eyes to give me a different perspective. And I will say, the feedback has been incredibly helpful. A lot of things are edits I noted myself, and some were plot holes or issues I hadn’t considered or simply ignored because that was a “future Marcella issue.” Unfortunately, now it is a “present Marcella issue,” but at least I have some people with whom I can discuss.
In other news, I’ve been steadily posting on social media. I’ve forgotten a few times since I usually post around 7pm, and we’ve had things happening at those times, but I set a timer so I won’t forget, or at least, I’m less likely to forget.
It has been a delicate balance to find writing time, social media time, blogging time, and admin time. Not to mention watching lectures, and learning craft. I understand why all of this is a full-time job, and here I am squeezing in things when I can.
